Doctor Me This: How Many Mutations Caused Your Disease?

Apparently, just four out of 3 billion "units in the human genome" (what is a genetic unit anyway, NY Times?) can cause a genetic disorder.

I win!

    there are 3 billion base pairs in your genome (your genome is a string of code 3 billion letters long ATGTCTAGACATTGT....)

    Chances are you're not the first in your family to have the mutation, it probably happened a while back but maybe?

    Nuts! Apparently my great-great grandmother could have died from something kidney related. Could it really have gone back THAT far only to resurface now?
