Stephen Colbert did a "Ask a Grown" segment for Rookie Magazine. In it, he gives advice on talking to your dad about sex, how to let boys know you don't like misogynistic jokes, and how to tell if someone likes you (and therefore, in turn, how to let someone know you like them). Check it out:
For reals - we could all stand to be a little less selfish and bring a little more cookies.

Comic Con: Stephen Colbert Surprises Everyone! Also the new Hobbit trailer
Guess who popped up to lead The Hobbit panel at Comic Con last weekend? That's right! The split-second scene-stealing Shifty-Eyed Lake-Town Spy himself! Vulture has the full text of Stephen's remarks. As is appropriate for anything relating to Tolkien, it's epic.
Oh, and here's the new trailer for The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies. Or, as I call it, The Hobbit: We Fleshed Out All the Crazy-Enormous Battles that Tolkien Kind of Breezed Over Because, Hey, It Was Supposed to Be a Kid's Book.

Conan Rips Stephen's "Masturbating Bear" Tweet
So this happened:
And to think all this chaos began with a simple (some might say brilliant?) tweet.

Larry Wilmore to Host "The Minority Report"
In case you hadn't heard, a successor to The Colbert Report has been named, and he's the wonderful Larry Wilmore of The Daily Show. He'll host an entirely new program, The Minority Report, in the Colbert time slot, 11:30pm, starting in 2015.
I'm SO excited about this new show! A little more description, from the NYT:
This is exactly what the late night landscape needs! A diverse, scripted panel of comedians, led by the uber-funny Larry Wilmore! He's written for and created so many shows (including The Bernie Mac Show, Fresh Prince, In Living Color, and The Jamie Foxx Show), and was about to show run the new ABC comedy Black-ish until this opportunity came along. Frankly, I can't wait for this show. Trust Larry Wilmore and Jon Stewart to come up with something epic and landscape-changing.
And if you want to see a few of Larry's TDS clips, ThinkProgress has a great round-up.
I'm SO excited about this new show! A little more description, from the NYT:
The idea is to have a panel of those voices led by Mr. Wilmore, commenting on the issues of the day — but in a comedic, scripted format, Ms. Ganeless said. “We are so excited to have a fresh idea for late night.” She emphasized that the panel would not simply address minority issues, but any and all issues, except from minority points of view.

"Waiting for Godot" on "Game of Thrones"
ICYMI - Here's the full reference (and straight-up dialogue) from Waiting for Godot in the Game of Thrones episode two weeks ago (Season 4, Episode 6). When I was watching it, I was like, "I know this... How do I know this?" and then I felt really silly because I directed Waiting for Godot in high school so I really should have been able to figure out why I knew it then and there.

Ladies Don't Be Princess'ing
In addition to Sonia Sotomayor's definition of a career, I think it should also include "must be a word that has both a noun and verb form, i.e. judge, writer, worker." Of course, in addition to "princess" this would knock "lawyer" (law'ing? I don't think so) out of the running, but would that be such a bad thing?
Also, a counterpoint:
Wow, that writing was extremely acute. I bet the writer who wrote it is also totally a cute!

Brendan Hurley, of The Colbert Report: Coolest Prop Master Ever!
Hey, I know this guy!
My friend (and one of the hardest-working people I know) just got this awesome write-up in Martha Stewart Living!
He's a wonderful, incredibly talented guy, and I'm so happy he's gotten this great recognition for all the excellent work he does.
Go, Brendan!

In the Day Apartment: Colbert and Sendak
Maurice Sendak. If only I could meet that man, I would shake his hand and he would probably spit on me. How cool would that be?
Am I the only person who thought it was coolest thing in the world that "In the Night Kitchen" showed the little boy's wiener? When I was a little lady, I thought to myself, "I must find this young gentleman, with his clothes made of cake and his comfortable nudity." I guess it's good that I didn't, though, because eating cake someone has been wearing all day would probably taste gross and present several hygiene and bacterial problems.
Yes, Maurice, I, too, think it's sad how much I enjoyed Stephen's book, but I prefer your Polish pole.

Stephen Colbert's Northwestern Graduation Speech
Stephen Colbert went to Northwestern (like my sister!), and for his 25th anniversary of his (almost) graduation, he gave this very inspiring, very funny speech.

The Colbert Army is also the Real Army
Here's a really touching article about Stephen Colbert and his work with and for the military, as well as their impressions of him. It's really heartwarming.
That's all!

Hilarious Humor Article in Generally Serious Magazine
Former Colbert Report EP Allison Silverman wrote this super duper (super NY) article for The New Yorker. Read it and laugh your batooties off. And then buy a super fancy bamboo stirrer for your translucent organic coffee oxygen.
