Worlds Collide with Amy Poehler and George R.R. Martin!

Remember how I mentioned that Amy Poehler's book and George R.R. Martin's book came out at the same time? They're both on the publicity track, and stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers this week. Here is the silliness that followed

My favorite was the aunt who didn't get invited to the Red Wedding. That's legit.

A Whole New World... of Ice and Fire!

Big day! In addition to Yes, Please, George R.R. Martin's latest encyclopedia, A World of Ice and Fire came out today! The husb and I got our copy in the mail. Spoiler alert: it's enormous! But there are also a lot of pretty pictures in it. It's like an adult picture book combined with a fun textbook. Well, I say fun. We haven't read it yet. But I sure do hope it's fun!

Comic Con: New "Game of Thrones" Cast Members!

Looks like we're going to spend some time in Dorne next season on Game of Thrones. Most of the new cast members are from the fictional southern land. Winter may be coming, but down there it still looks pretty hot (though sadly missing its hottest star, Oberyn).

I'm interested to see what they do here. QUASI-VAGUE SPOILERS AHEAD: Trystane is barely mentioned and never really seen in the books, and Myrcella's part in everything is brief, as well, so I'm curious how and why they decided to beef up that storyline. Like others, I'm bummed that Arianne hasn't been cast, suggesting they've cut her storyline entirely. Since her storyline was the majority of the Dorne plot, I'm not really sure what they're going to do down there at all now. On the bright side, no new Greyjoys. Theon and Yara (Asha) are plenty for me.

Solid "Game of Thrones" Mix set to Lorde

Oh man, this is super good.

I was actually just listening to Lorde's rendition of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" from the (I'm not ashamed to admit) Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack (which is a really good soundtrack), and it fits SO well here. The cutting is interesting - Uproxx calls it a recap, but it's more a thematic montage or exploration, pairing certain moments together that make you wonder what the overall game is (get it!? Game?!). I am entertained.

"Waiting for Godot" on "Game of Thrones"

ICYMI - Here's the full reference (and straight-up dialogue) from Waiting for Godot in the Game of Thrones episode two weeks ago (Season 4, Episode 6). When I was watching it, I was like, "I know this... How do I know this?" and then I felt really silly because I directed Waiting for Godot in high school so I really should have been able to figure out why I knew it then and there.

Also ICYMI:

Hear "The Rains of Castamere" Performed by Sigur Ros

I know we're all hoping that tomorrow's episode of Game of Thrones helps us get over last week's episode. To ease the transition, here's Sigur Ros' rendition of "The Rains of Castamere" as performed in the end credits/a bit at the Purple Wedding.

Ah, happier times (?).

A Foreshadowing of Ice and Thrones

HBO knows we can't start gearing up for Season 4 of Game of Thrones early enough (see: trailer, photos), so they're going to release a 15-minute "foreshadowing" featurette on Feb. 9th with clips and cast member interviews.

Again, now that I can't be spoilered, I'm all about checking out the previews. Looking good so far!

GoT is Coming

Ok, fine, Game of Thrones won't be here until April, but at least we've got some sweet photos in the meantime. And finally I can't be spoilered (at least 30% of the way through book five!)!

Game of Thrones Season 4 Trailer is Here!!

Hooray!! It's weird watching this trailer, since now that I've read the books, I know exactly what's happening. I both like/don't like it (the fact that I know, not the trailer, which looks great!), but I also am excited to see all the things the showrunners and writers change. So far, the show has done a fantastic job, and this trailer seems like we're going to see more incredible moments ahead!

Can't wait until April! Partially for this and partially because then it might be warm again...

October: Daenerys Targaryen Nails for Halloween!

My husband and I are reading Game of Thrones right now, and Daenerys Targaryen is my favorite character. This is not surprising because she's pretty much everyone's favorite character (which makes me constantly worry that George R.R. Martin is going to kill her off ASAP), but I've got long blonde hair and a feisty dragon-may-care attitude, so I thought I'd dress as her for Halloween this year. These nails are a loose homage to her - the light purple an ode to those famous Targaryen eyes and the thumb an abstract fiery white/yellow/orange/red in honor of her dragons. The fire didn't turn out as baddass as I wanted it to (because nail painting can definitely be baddass, right?), but I still didn't have a tiny nail brush (GET READY, I'M GETTING TO IT IN THE VERY NEXT POST!!) so you really can't blame me.

Happy Halloween!!!!

What are you all dressing as? Or are you dressing as nothing because you've either a) lost your soul or b) you misread that as "dressing in nothing" because you will be too busy being naked and having lots of intercourse. Because then you are dressed as the warm embrace of love, and that works just fine. Or c) You are misread it as "dressing as The Nothing" from The Never-Ending Story because that IS a scary costume. And what an imaginative costume for a character who is all about the end of imagination! You readers are very interesting indeed.

I am dressing as the Mother of Dragons from Game of Thrones because

And my husband will be my dragons because he supports me like that. Also, because puppets are fun.

Speaking of 'Game of Thrones'

Here's a super-long interview with George R. R. Martin about... well... everything. Let's just say that even though I was checking for spoilers, they're all pretty well embedded in there and now I "know things" that I cannot un-know. That's not to say it's not a really interesting read (he even addressed my annoyance with how all the young characters never get a chance to age!), but it is not a good idea to read it if you haven't read all the books.

Wrong Directors: Game of Thrones

Jesse Benjamin's "Wrong [Casting] Directors" takes on Game of Thrones, with Zooey Deschanel, Aubrey Plaza, and Michael Cera.

Would you watch this "Game of Quirks"? I totally would. At least to see Jess and April play off of each other. That would be a blast.

When trying to come up with a cleverer title for the millennial edition of Game of Thrones, all I could come up with was "Game of Moans" which presumably already exists in porn form. Unless you think there is no porn parody of "Game of Thrones" because there's already so much sex in the actual show... Could go either way!

GAME OF THRONES!!!!

IT'S BACK!!!

What did you think? How'd we do? Did we all survive watching this episode? Or did your brain burst with anticipation at watching the NEXT episode, now that it is only a week away?! I think I did a little of both.

I thought it did some really great set-up and character work, which is legitimately what I want from this show. Others may be more into the sex/violence, but I really enjoy the character development and exploration of the world. And yes, I know that sounds like the guy who says he only reads Playboy "for the articles" but it's true! Sometimes it does have good articles!

Things I'm nervous about (not in terms of like, bad writing or something, but in terms of watching these people always makes me squeamish): Tyrion in the new King's Landing landscape, Sansa and Littlefinger (what is he going to do to her? He has a vendetta against her mom, which deeply concerns me), and Joffrey's new fiancee, Margaery Tyrell - she really feels like she has the upper hand right now, but where Joffrey is concerned, that cannot last for long...

Things I'm pumped about: Jon Snow (plus Ygritte) and Rangers (esp Sam) V White Walkers, Dany and her potential new enslaved, castrated army (she clearly hates slavery and it is interesting to see her wrestle with her desire to do what is necessary to take the throne without compromising herself and her morals) + DRAGONS, and anything that Ari is doing.

New 'Game of Thrones' Trailer - A Real, Proper One, Too!

This is a real trailer!! Not those "Bad things are coming and let's look at everyone's most serious faces over black with no new visuals" lame trailers.

Woo! Looks like the s is really going to hit the f and it's going to be awesome.

And did you see what was flying next to that ship!? Baddass!!!
