Veronica Mars Webseries Spin-Off "Play it Again, Dick" to Premiere Sept 15th

I'm happy to see Veronica Mars back in any incarnation, and who doesn't love Ryan Hansen (if not his douchey character Dick Casablancas)? So I'm happy to see that the CW will, in fact, release the Veronica Mars spin-off webseries, Play It Again, Dick starting on September 15th, with a new 8-10 minute episode released weekly after that. Should be fun!

The Veronica Mars Movie Happened And Is Amazing!

Sorry I almost totally breezed past this, but on the 14th, the Veronica Mars movie was released in theaters and for digital download. I watched it in theaters the morning before we left for Greece and I was SO happy with it. As a fan, and knowing this was for fans, it was exactly what we needed. It was the open-ended conclusion (yes, I realize this is an oxymoron) that we didn't get seven years ago. The only thing that I think is funny is that (SPOILER ALERT) as an adult who sympathizes and wants the best for Veronica, the ending is like, "Noooooo!" but as a fan who wants what Veronica wants (not what she "needs"), I was like, "Yes!!!" Not much more to say than that. As a Kickstarter backer, I could not have been more satisfied. I'll miss all the email updates from Rob and his team. This was a really fun ride and I really felt like a part of the team, even though I haven't met any of these people and they have no idea who I am. That's what technology and good storytelling will get you!

I Will Watch Anything by Rob Thomas, even a Zombie Procedural

I'm no fan of zombies. At least outside of zombie George Washington and zombie Romeo. However, Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas' new project over at CW based on an existing comic book, iZombie, about a zombie woman who maintains her humanity by eating murdered people's brains and subsequently discovering who committed those murders sounds like a zombified Pushing Daisies that I could really get into. Definitely not a sentence I ever saw myself writing, but I'm fine with it!

Also, I'd love to write for that show. I could add crazy amounts of zombie snark and zombie-procedural puns. "I'll see you in Hell... when I go back." "Sounds like he got a case of the munchies. The brain munchies." "Sounds like she really got... in his head. Zombies."

Veronica Mars Movie Trailer is Officially Here!!!

Oh man. It looks so good. Did you see how much Max Greenfield they put in there? Delightful. Did you catch a cameo by Kristen Bell's hubby Dax Shepherd (I thought I did but I've only watched it once so I could be wrong)? Did you see all the LoVe they put in? I definitely did.

Obviously, I do hope that Veronica's character has grown and matured and doesn't devolve or regress emotionally by the end of the film (she really starts off in a high place, so there may be some of that, but maybe it will lead to higher and better emotional growth by the end?), but it also looks like there's going to be some awesome detectivery going on. I hope we see more of Wallace and Mac. What have they been up to?

So many questions. And, come March, so many answers!

V-Mars Movie: Coming At Ya Pi Day, 2014!

That's right, Marshmallows, Veronica Mars is getting released in theaters on March 14, 2014 - Say whaaaaaaat?! To complement that great news, Rob Thomas released from the new flick on Entertainment Weekly. Oh man, I could watch Veronica verbally bitch slap Madison all day. More importantly, though, I want to know what Wallace and Mac have been up to! Sounds like Mac is some sort of nerd success story, but I need some sweet deets. And what has Wallace been doing besides thinking about getting with some rando girl at his ten-year high school reunion!? When does this movie come out again? Now March 14, 2014 doesn't seem soon enough!

Veronica Mars Movie: Love Triangle Update ALERT!

As a V-Mars Movie Kickstarter backer, I got the link to this (and also my awesome t-shirt which I wore all last weekend and it was awesome, and probably smells bad now) hot off the presses, but in case you haven't seen it yet, here is a fun featurette on the new Mars movie:



Oh man, I was SO not a fan of Piz. Mainly because he has the WORST NAME OF ALL TIME. Also, not because he's a nice guy - I love me some nice guys (I married me the best nice guy), but because he just didn't seem to understand Veronica. He acted like she was a person she was not. If I were to give him the benefit of the doubt, it would be that he saw her as the person she could be if she had not had grown up the way she did, but that shit went down and she couldn't change that. Also, Logan became a nice guy. That was his arc. From bad boy to tame, sweet boy in love. He was changing and growing and Veronica was totally not supportive. Again, though, the third season as a whole was a huge mess. Let's not beat around the bush. Let's also hope that Rob Thomas, genius-face that he is, understands that the third season was a mess and makes the movie align more closely, quality-wise, with the first and second season. Of course, having Piz in it at all, much less in such a prominent role, is not a good sign, but I have high hopes nonetheless!

Rob Thomas Making Our Generation's 'Les Miserables'

Rob Thomas has yet to do any wrong in my mind (don't screw up the V-Mars movie, please!!), so I hope that his modern adaptation of 'Les Mis' recently picked up as a script commitment for Fox is as awesome as it should be. There are hundreds of scripts written for pilot season, so we'll probably never see this show, but I bet it would be seriously awesome. How many gender roles do you think he'll reverse? What norms will he subvert? Will our Jean Valjean be as bitingly funny as V-Mars or Henry from Party Down? We might know!

Spoiler Alert: Rich People Aren't Great at Empathy

Actually, it's all about context. If you think you're in an economically upper-class position, then you can't read people's emotions as well as if you think you're in an economically lower-class position. It's all in this study. Weird, huh? The authors posit that it's because if you're wealthy, you don't necessarily need to look for help in others, and therefore don't have to care or depend on relationships with others as much. Therefore, you wouldn't need to recognize their facial expressions. The really weird thing was that if the people in the study were tricked into thinking they were one status or another, their ability to recognize facial expression improved or got worse accordingly. Nuts!

Anyway, I just finished watched Season Three of "Veronica Mars," and that show's all about class warfare, so I thought it was interesting.

Also, the show (Veronica Mars) is great (though the third season was definitely not as good as the first two), and I really hope that Rob Thomas (the creator) and Kristen Bell (the star) get a chance to make a movie out of it. The finale of the third season was definitely not satisfying enough. Heck, it wasn't even a real ending. The show deserves better.
