Happy Birthday, Nixon!
I know, I know, Nixon was a pretty seedy (and horribly racist, awful, etc) guy and Watergate disillusioned American politics forever, but he accomplished more progressive good in his presidency than either of the Bush's or Reagan. He signed the EPA into law. He supported universal health care (and as the first step toward that, he allowed Medicare to cover all ESRD patients and transplant patients, like me! And that is the only disease specifically covered by Medicare to this day). He even supported the Equal Rights Amendment! So while we can all hate Nixon for this or that (and certainly he wasn't as good as if we had elected a Democrat), let's not forget that he did accomplish a lot of good, good that has directly impacted all of us (cleaner air, water, etc) and me personally (Medicare for kidney disease patients!).
