Wild Pink Leopard and Zebra Print Bachelorette Nails!

One of my best friends is getting married in two weeks, so for her bachelorette nails, I decided to go as stereotypical as possible: neon pink with black leopard spots and zebra stripes. Full-on bridal, "girl power" insanity. Fortunately, my friend is not at all like this. We ended up doing a "Murder Mystery at the MET" Scavenger hunt as our main activity so... yeah, not quite a wild, animal print bunch, which is why I thought it'd be so fun(ny). What do you think?

Gold Dinosaurs at Wedding: Best DIY Ever!

Also, I'd be reminsce not to post these amazing, hand-gold-spray-painted dinosaurs that decorated our friends' wedding. What a unique, classy, silly, ridiculously fun DIY thing to do! Clearly, this is why we hang out with them.

Baby Nails for Shira & Adam & Ezra!

My friends Shira and Adam had their first baby in June. His name is Ezra and he's adorable. Moreover, he's the first baby my husband and I ever held (at least that I remember). He's too cute, so I did these polka dot, footprint, and otter nails to celebrate his arrival. Why an otter? Adam loves them and surely Ezra will, too.

Pixar's "The Good Dinosaur" Update!

I was bummed when Pixar's The Good Dinosaur got bumped from this summer to next Thanksgiving (definitely one reason this summer has been a bit lacking in the film department - aside from Obvious Child and Guardians of course!), because it meant the film's problems must have been pretty severe. It looks like we were right, but, fortunately, that all has been resolved.

Collider released a video and article from an interview with John Lithgow explaining that he's going to re-record his entire role (Poppa) for the film. He says, "Don’t worry.  It’s coming and it’s gonna be better than I ever imagined.” That's good! Lithgow's got good taste, so I trust him on this one.

I also much prefer Pixar delaying and reinventing a movie rather than release something subpar. I hope that when The Good Dinosaur is released in November 25, 2015, it proves that this reboot was necessary and that the film is just as wonderful and magical as we expect from the Pixar pedigree.

You can read more and watch the video of Lithgow's interview over at Collider.

Lava: A Love-a Story

Pixar announced the name and poster image for the short they'll play in front of next year's Inside Out. It's going to be called, "Lava" and it's "Inspired by the isolated beauty of tropical islands and the explosive allure of ocean volcanoes, “Lava” is a musical love story that takes place over millions of years." Like most Pixar shorts, it was completed well ahead of the feature it'll play in front of, and so many reviewers have seen it already. It looks pretty cute, and who doesn't like Hawaii? You can read more about the short over at /Film.

Squirrelpocalypse Now: Coming of the Squirrelmaggedon is Back!

Beware, the below photos show squirrel-on-man violence.

The story: a man was innocently walking through a park wanting to take a selfie with a precocious squirrel.

According to the young man, “I approached it making a clicking noise with my tongue; phone drawn... When I got close enough, the squirrel actually tried grabbing my phone. I shook it off, then snapped this photo.”

That's when the horror began.

“Next thing I knew, the squirrel was on my shoulder, then under my shirt, and then hanging off my back!” He told BuzzFeed. “This photo is courtesy of my mom, who collapsed laughing shortly after.”

Oh yes. She had to laugh to keep from crying at a our inevitable doom. Thanks to Buzzfeed for bringing us this undoubtable proof of the coming squirrelmaggedon.

We have been warned.

Cubs Be Swimmin'

Lion cubs at the Smithsonian National Zoo have to learn how to swim at an early age if they're going to live safely in their family's enclosure.

I love all the weird lion cub noises they make when they are displeased.

You can see more adorable Smithsonian National Zoo action at their YouTube page.

Tiny Hamster Eating a Burrito/Pizza!

This little guy blew up the internet last month with Tiny Hamster Eating a Tiny Burrito:

Now he's back and eating a tiny pizza:

While playing on a tiny playground:

Tiny, adorable animals + tiny, adorable things = internet video gold.

Adorable Baby Mouse Deer!

Is it a deer? Is it a mouse? It's a deer the size of a mouse! This tiny java mouse deer was born in Spain a few weeks ago. At birth, he weighed only 3.5 oz! Isn't he the cutest littlest thing!?

See his tiny hooves?!

Sadly, this species is nearly extinct due to deforestation in its native Southeast Asia.

Hiding behind his little momma!

Tiny Felt Easter Diorama

Happy Easter!

I spent Sunday celebrating with friends and bacon-greased chocolate-chip pancakes, but clearly this Deviant Artist was more productive. Check out her miniature Easter diorama, complete with bunny, chick, eggs, and a tiny whisker basket!

Isn't it totes adorbs? So tiny and whimsical.

Nail Art: Swamp/Alligator/Otter Nails!

Another original design - swamp nails with a river otter (who admittedly does look more like a sea otter) and an alligator. These guys were in honor of my husband and my's recent trip to Florida to visit his parents. We had a fantastic time and saw many alligators (though, sadly, no otters). Also, we went to the Harry Potter world at Universal Islands of Adventure and got our first taste of butterbeer. That's right, I had butterbeer in the only two places it is served within two weeks of each other. I AM THE NERD QUEEN!

Cute alligator or cutest alligator?

Nail Art: Easter Bunny Nails!

Back in January, it was so cold that I couldn't stand doing dark-themed nails, so instead I brought Easter early with these cute easter egg patterns and adorable bunnies. Aren't they too cute?

Here comes Peter Cottontail...

...Hopping down the bunny trail!

Videogum's Favorite Animal Videos of 2013

Not for the faint of cute, though possibly my favorite year-end round-up out there, despite its disturbingly low amount of dog-related videos.

"Mr. Guinea Pig Watches the Rain" is clearly best.

To quote Videogum, "Today, [thinking back on the previous year, contemplating moving forward into the next] we are all this [guinea pig]"

November: Thanksgiving Turkey Nails!

This idea was a mix between my friend Shira and my husband: basically, it's a hand turkey (like the kind you'd draw as a little kid), with the thumb as the face and the other fingers as the multicolored feathers. The adorable googly eyes (dotting tool using the larger dot as the white part and the smaller dot as the black part) and design of the beak and waddle were all mine, though. I think they turned out pretty cute, and they were a big hit at my in-laws' Thanksgiving festivities this year.

And Also We're This Dog, Too

Yep, this is generally how I feel, too:

At least unless someone's asking me to how eat cookies. I can eat the shit out of cookies. Not literal shit, though. That'd be gross.

Today, We Are All This Cat

Or, well, actually every day I feel like this cat. It's so straight-up sad and hilarious, just like me:

I could watch that all day. Leap and flop. Leap and flop. Leap annnnnnnnnd flop.

Just Another Reminder How Terrible Dog Breeding Is

Gawker pointed out this concise post called, "100 Years of Breed 'Improvement'" on a Dog Behavior Science blog. Comparing photos of eight breeds from 1915 to today, the blog runs down the list of hereditary health ailments that have been bred into or exaggerated through breeding these dogs. The bulldog is, of course, the worst of all (and if you look at images of bulldogs before 1915, you'll see how healthy and normal they used to be even prior to then). The fact that people still breed and sell bulldogs at all disgusts me. They're forcing a being into a life that literally can't breathe or live healthily in any real capacity. I cannot understand why any humane person would want to do that.

THR: Animals Were Harmed

This Hollywood Reporter feature on the complete inadequacy of AHA regulations and oversight is both revealing and horrifying. I had heard rumors about this for years. I'm glad that THR was bold enough to print this. I hope the outrage it causes effects the changes that are clearly necessary to get this reprehensible problem under control.
